Getting the names of students who will attend a practical session or a volunteer tutorial class with limited space can be a nightmare, with the documents prone to being lost or names scratched out.
Engineering mathematics case
Permission was given for this example to be used by the lecturer concerned.
Context
1500 students first year students can book for additional volunteer tutorial sessions: 10 sessions per week with 20 students in each session.
Solution
A self-enroll group set of 10 groups with a maximum of 20 students per group were created per week. The time, venue and tutor for each group was given, allowing the students to choose which group will fit in their time table.
The group set was made available to the students the week before the actual sessions.
