Definitions
  • Accommodations are set for individual students who need additional time for all due dates or time-limited assessments, as specified by a doctor and the Disability unit. Read more...
  • Exceptions are set for an individual student where special circumstances require additional attempts, rescheduling due dates, or extended access for a specific assessment.
  • Exemptions are set when a student is excused from an assessment and the marks should not be included in gradebook calculations.

The video below shows you how to add exceptions, exemptions, accommodations and delete assessment attempts of a student.

Exceptions

You can create an exception for:

  • an individual student,
  • a group of students.

An exception can be set as

  • additional attempts,
  • rescheduled due dates, or
  • extended access.
Note:
  • You can set exceptions even if the assessment is hidden from other students.
  • Individual exceptions for extended access are only possible if you have set conditional availability —show on and hide after dates— on the assessment.

Create Exception: Assessment Submissions Tab

  1. Click on the name of the assessment.
  2. Click on the Submissions tab at the top.
  3. Find the student/group for which you want to add an exception and click on the Ellipse (to the right of the screen).
  4. Click on Add or Edit Exceptions.
  5. Change the settings that are needed on the Exceptions panel.
  6. Save.

Create Exception: Assessment Grading Page (Group exceptions)

  1. Click on the name of the assessment.
  2. Click on the Submissions tab at the top.
  3. Click on the group name for which you want to add an exception.
  4. Click on the Ellipse next to the Grade Pill at the top left of the screen.
  5. Click on Add or Edit Exceptions
  6. Change the settings needed on the Exceptions panel.
  7. Save.

Create Exception: Gradebook Grades view

  1. Click on Gradebook tab at the top.
  2. Click Grades.
  3. Select the student’s assessment cell to display the options menu.
  4. Choose Add or edit exceptions.
  5. Change the settings needed on the Exceptions panel.
  6. Save.

Create Exception: Gradebook Gradable Items view

  1. Click on Gradebook tab at the top.
  2. Click Gradable items.
  3. Click on the relevant assessment's name.
  4. Find the student/group for which you want to add an exception and click on the Ellipse (to the right of the screen).
  5. Click on Add or Edit Exceptions.
  6. Change the settings that are needed on the Exceptions panel.
  7. Save.

Exemptions

Create Exemption: Assessment Submissions Tab

  1. Click on the name of the assessment.
  2. Click on the Submissions tab at the top.
  3. Find the student to which you want to add an exception. and click on the Ellipse (to the right of the screen).
  4. Choose Add or edit exemptions.
  5. Select Exempt grade on the Exempt from grading panel.
  6. Save.

Create Exemption: Gradebook Grades view

  1. Click on Gradebook tab at the top.
  2. Click Grades.
  3. Select the student’s assessment cell to display the options menu.
  4. Choose Add or edit exemptions.
  5. Select Exempt grade on the Exempt from grading panel.
  6. Save.

Create Exemption: Gradebook Gradable Items view

  1. Click on Gradebook tab at the top.
  2. Click Gradable items.
  3. Click on the assessment name to which you need to add the exemption.
  4. Select the student’s assessment cell to display the options menu.
  5. Select Exempt grade on the Exempt from grading panel.
  6. Save.
