# Why set up gradebook

This video demonstrates why it is important to set up the Gradebook and Current Grade columns before the module is opened to students.

**Note**: At UP we use the terminology Current Grade instead of Overall Grade to prevent confusing it with the final mark of a module. (The Bb Help site use the term Overall Grade)

The Current Grade is a calculated item you build to show students a weighted summary of the items you grade and post in their Grades area. Take note:

- For Semester Modules, this will be the Semester Mark calculation.
- For Year Modules, this will be the half-year Progress Mark.
