Semester mark calculation

Prev Next

After creating the Current Grade, you need to re-create the current grade in a Calculation, so that you will be able to use that Semester Mark in the Final Mark calculation.

Current Grade limitation

The current grade cannot be added to a calculation in the Gradebook.

Follow these steps:

  1. Access the Gradebook.
  2. Go to the Gradable Items view.
  3. Hover your mouse over the line next to the current grade to display a +.
  4. Click on the + to display the menu.
  5. Choose Add Total Calculation.
  6. Name it Semester Mark.
  7. Choose the option you would like to use. (If you used the weighted option to do your current grade calculation, then choose weighted here as well.)

Points

A points-based calculation may aid transparency as it makes clear to students what’s worth more in a course and what’s worth less. You can select which categories and items you want to include in the calculation. The maximum total points available in the course will be decided by the items and categories you include in the calculation.

Weighted

The weighted Current Grade calculates grade items as a percentage of a final mark worth 100%. You can assign percentage values to any course items and categories you prefer. Note that any weighting applied to a category applies to the category as a whole. The items within the category will be proportionally weighted based on their underlying max points values. If you want the assessments within the category to be equally weighted, they need to have the same max points value.

  1. On the right-hand side of the page, untick "When ticked [X], if a student has completed one ........."
  2. Change the grade schema to percentage.
  3. Recreate the Current Grade setup in the Semester Mark calculation.
