Article summary

Very important

NEVER delete Columns since it DELETES the "linked" Assessments as well

Take note

• The University’s regulations require that no exam or final module marks may be displayed to students on clickUP.
• It is strongly recommended that this be mentioned in your study guide, as well as the calculation details of the Progress Mark, Semester Mark, and Final Mark in a comprehensive Assessment Methodology.
• Having a Progress Mark, Semester Mark, and Final Mark calculation set up in your module at the beginning of the semester will make the Final Grade Import with PeopleSoft much easier and save you time.

This page illustrates how to hide the marks from students in the Gradebook. You must:

  1. Make a backup of the Gradebook.
  2. Hide the items/calculations with examination and total marks for a module from the student's view.

This is extremely important!

1. Backup (Download) the Gradebook

• Make a backup of your Gradebook (download) and save it to your computer. This Excel sheet will serve as a backup of your Grade Center, but can also be used to have tutors or assistants add marks while grading an assessment.

2. Hide the Examination and Final Mark from student view

Why hide the items/calculations instead of just not posting them?

All grades need to be posted to be calculated. If grades are posted, they become visible to students. Therefore, you must hide the examination Gradebook items/calculations from the student's view. If the grades are all posted and the item/calculation is Hidden from students, they will not see the grades.

Example

In this example of the Gradebook, you will see that:

  • the Semester Mark calculation is Visible to students,
  • the Exam mark (gradable item) and Final Mark (calculation) are Hidden from students.

Explanation of the icons:

  • When an icon has a line/strike-through, the item is Hidden from students.
  • A red icon indicates that a Due date has passed, e.g. the Exam in this case.

Note that the Exam marks have all been posted, but that the Exam marks are not visible to students.

You can toggle the visibility of an item/calculation by opening/clicking on the item/calculation and changing the options from Hidden from students to Visible to students or vice versa.
